The unique colorway and construction is inspired by the film’s main character Mr. Link and his plaid outfit. Mr. Link’s plaid suit and green vest are replicated on the upper of the Air Max 1 with hairy tan suede and white canvas detailing. The midsole is covered in brown leather for a premium effect, while the gum rubber outsole completes the color scheme. Mr. Link’s “cuff links” are replicated on the top lace eyelets. “Max” from the Air Max branding on the tongue is scratched out and replaced with “Susan” as a reference to the story of the film. The limited edition Nike Air Max 1 “Susan” released on the same day as the film, April 12, 2019.
